[NEWS] request
Hi!
We've had a request on Facebook - someone is asking to get the Weekly News via email.
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=651970961501798&id=507603582605204&comment_id=651979058167655¬if_t=share_comment <https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=651970961501798&id=507603582605204&comment_id=651979058167655¬if_t=share_comment>
Should I forward him to the mailing list? Was there ever a discussion/need to make the news subscribable via email?
Best
Katharina

Hi there,
I added a "follow blog via mail"-widget to the blog and now it's mail-subscribable. http://blog.couchdb.org/ <http://blog.couchdb.org/>
I hereby invite you all to subscribe :). I'll also do that in the next Weekly News and on twitter.

As plaintext or HTML?
For plaintext format like
Short intro 1
http://link.to/some/url
Short intro 2
http://link2.to/some/url2
looks more suitable. Scrolling up-down from text to [n] footnote can be
annoying for weekly news – each post has plenty of links.

For a link heavy newsletter, HTML makes more sense. It’s also more
common in other weekly newsletter formats. The ASF standard on this
is from the 90s. Sorry Joan :)

Agree that this should be a news@ mailing list, and is a superset of
all posts that go to announce@ - all announcements also hit news, but
weekly news posts don't go to announce@.
FYI the Apache standard is to use plain text emails. I personally will
ignore all HTML formatted emails.

How about calling the list news@couchdb.apache.org? More descriptive and
allows change of frequency if it ever becomes desirable.

We could also set up a new mailing list weekly@couchdb.apache.org and people
can subscribe to that and we post the weekly there.

Re: [NEWS] request

I can confirm that it is a request from many people. I had a chat with Lena about it at the CouchDB day in Hamburg and have documented it in the Advocate Hub Forum.
A possible solution is to use a RSS feed or your mailing list announcement mail as trigger to send an email to all subscribers via Mailgun or Sendgrid or Mailchimp (sending emails is easy but managing a subscriber list is what they can provide to us).
