Extending the DTM

Sorry for this slew of questions today, but I've got one more for ya:

Is there any method of extending DTM with my own custom Node class? 
Xerces users may be familiar with the "document-class-name" Document 
Factory setting, which allows users to specify their own document 
class (and thereby, their own Node class).  Does Xalan support 
anything like this for DTM?
