Possible to add Storage Network after Zone Deployment

Hello Guys,

is it possible to add a storage Network after a zone has been allready deployed and is produtive ?

Kind regards

Benjamin

Benjamin,

Keep in mind a storage network in the context of CloudStack *only means secondary storage* - i.e. your primary storage is not affected per se. As a result adding a new storage network only has implications for how management (in the case of VMware) and SSVM access the secondary storage pools. Also keep in mind this may have implications on your hypervisor networking – hence it needs thorough planning.

With regards to adding a new physical network – you would have to do this on command line using e.g. cloudmonkey, you can’t do this in the GUI.

I would also second Rafael’s comment – please test this very thoroughly in a test environment before taking it to prod, the likelihood is you will find issues and may find yourself in a situation where CloudStack secondary storage operations stop working otherwise.

If your primary storage is direct attached in hosts, then the only storage
system affect would be the secondary. This would require SSVM
re-creation.It seems that you could indeed make the changes with everything
up and running without affecting your clients VMs. However, pay attention
to snapshots, templates and other operations that required the secondary
storage during the upgrade/configuration process.

Also, it goes without saying, it is always a good idea to first test the
procedure in a staging environment.

Hi Rafael,

im currently running NFS as Secondary Storage over mgmt Network. For Cluster / Primary Storage we use FC SANS attacht as HBA on Xenserver.

Kind regards

Possible it is, but depending on the storage systems you are using it might
affect running VMs.

What type of secondary and primary storage systems are you using?
