[jira] [Commented] (PDFBOX-2626) Regenerate field appearances if NeedAppearances is set prior to rendering

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PDFBOX-2626?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14289006#comment-14289006 ]

Maruan Sahyoun commented on PDFBOX-2626:
----------------------------------------

thanks for the report. The reason why the form fields content is not rendered is because there is no appearance stream with the text content in it for the form field. There is on the other hand the NeedAppearances flag set which should enforce the pdf reader to (re-) generate the appearances. That’s currently not supported by PDFBox. So it’s not a rendering issue as there is no renderable content.

How did you generate the form field. How did you set the value? Would it be possible to generate the appearance within the application generating the PDF?

Please note that in the current draft of the PDF 2 specification the NeedAppearances flag is deprecated so field filling applications should generate the appearance and not rely on the reader doing so if that makes it into the final version.
