I see the black rectangle too, using AOO410 Rev. 1537973.

It is a *.jpg with EXIF information. It starts with FF D8 FF E1.
You can load and save the image by IrfanView to transform it to JFIF kind of
*.jpg. It can then be inserted without problems.
