java.sql.SQLException: Lost connection to server during query the error is here

hello
  we are running web application using apache and apache-jserv server ,and 
mysql as databse.
after 4 to 6 hr it will give following error
java.sql.SQLException: Lost connection to server during query the error is 
here

when we restart apache server it will work,
send me some details to solve this problem ,any problem in configuring
apache httpd or its problem of mysql server and also i want to know about 
how apache links to database.
