{{kafka-topics}} argument {{--config}} is used for setting topic config parameters only.  It cannot be used for setting client config parameters, otherwise an error results:

Error while executing topic command : Unknown topic config name: sasl.mechanism
[2019-06-04 12:37:05,746] ERROR org.apache.kafka.common.errors.InvalidConfigurationException: Unknown topic config name: sasl.mechanism

Workaround: use the argument {{--command-config}} to pass in those client config parameters.
