Source for renders in 1.1.3?
Please, can you tell me, where I can find a consistent, matching set of
renderkit objects for MyFaces 1.1.3 - the source code - ?
Specifically, I want to locate a matching pair of
"HtmlTableRenderer.java" and "HtmlTableRendererBase.java" - for MyFaces
*1.1.3*.
I have already used a lot of time examining the source repository and I
think, I can find a HtmlTableRenderer with "1.1.3" in its path, but I
can not find a matching HtmlTableRendererBase.
?

Ah, yes.
I missed the resolution to this due to my vacations. Indeed, it is
unfair to ask so short after you put all this work into this ;)

Were you asking about Tomahawk originally? I gave you the shared tag
for the MyFaces core release.
Here's how to figure it out.
>From the Tomahawk version number, find the tag:
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/tomahawk/tags/1_1_3/
Look in core/pom.xml for this part:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
<artifactId>dependency-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>unpack-shared-tomahawk</id>

<artifactItems>
<artifactItem>
<groupId>org.apache.myfaces.shared</groupId>
<artifactId>myfaces-shared-tomahawk</artifactId>
<version>2.0.2</version>
</artifactItem>
... and that's the Shared tag you want:
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/shared/tags/2_0_2/

I don't know the answer, but I know someone just posted the answer to
determining this in the last few hours. Not sure if it was this
thread or a different one.
Something about looking in the pom.xml file for the shared dependency version.

Thank you!
I can perfectly well live with small differences (as opposed what I saw
today that Eclipse happily singlestepped in a completely blank section
of JAD-decompiled code). I primarily just need to see what conditions
trigger a given exception.
I appreciate your efforts and quick responses!

MyFaces Core 1.1.3 goes with Shared 2.0.1
Tomahawk 1.1.3 goes with Shared 2.0.2
I'm not going to guarantee that those snapshots exactly match the
release, though.

Thorbjørn,
I don't think it's even necessary to get the source from svn.
I think all you need to do is go to the maven repository containing
1.1.3 and grab the prebuilt source jar from there.

Thank you both. I do currently not need to run the latest CVS version,
so I guess I need some special SVN mumbojumbo to get the 1.1.3 version?

It's already there.
The refactored source is in a jar in the target directory for
shared-tomahawk and shared-impl.
You can set up eclipse to find it using the directions here:

It would be easy to fix this - look into my recent addition to the pom.xml:
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-idea-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.0-beta-2-SNAPSHOT</version>
<configuration>
<jdkLevel>1.3</jdkLevel>
<useClassifiers>true</useClassifiers>
<linkModules>true</linkModules>
<neverLinkModules>myfaces-shared-core,myfaces-shared-impl,myfaces-shared-tomahawk,myfaces-shared-project</neverLinkModules>
<downloadSources>true</downloadSources>
</configuration>
</plugin>
with downloadSource=true, you will see the sources for the shared classes!
neverLinkModules is a small patch to the idea-plugin which is
currently situated on my pc only - I'm attaching the patch here if
anyone is interested; it will include all modules except the shared
module normally; only the shared module will be linked as a library.
This means you can work like normal, except with the shared code
(currently, everything is linked as a library). You need to checkout
the head version of the maven-idea-plugin from:
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/plugins/trunk/maven-idea-plugin
and build it locally for this to work.

The MyFaces Core 1.1.4 release is currently being voted on, and it
includes both binary and source distributions as well as -javadocs and
-sources jars for the Maven repository.
The situation with 'shared' is somewhat complicated. For example, I
don't think 'mvn idea:idea' is going to pick up the -sources jar for
shared without some intervention, but at least we'll make them
available, and go from there.

Would it be a big effort to release the sources corresponding to the
binaries when creating a new version?
I have had to understand some rather mysterious exceptions regarding
properties, where I had to resort to JAD and some guessing to figure out
what was wrong. The real source would have been quite a benefit.
I am not talking about being able to build the library, just to be able
to debug with source :)
Most Jakarta projects do this, and myfaces used to. Any particular
reason why this stopped.
An additional benefit for Eclipse users, is that it can extract javadoc
from such source and display it when hovering over a method call. i.e.

As Martin suggests, the HtmlTableRendererBase class is in the 'Shared' project.
It looks like MyFaces 1.1.3 used Shared 2.0.1, and the tag is here:
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/shared/tags/2_0_1/
Or with ViewVC: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/myfaces/shared/tags/2_0_1/
I don't have that tag checked out, but on the trunk of shared, the
class you are looking for is on this path:
$ find . -name HtmlTableRendererBase.java
./core/src/main/java/org/apache/myfaces/shared/renderkit/html/HtmlTableRendererBase.java
The shared code gets re-packaged at compile time, so the package name
won't match exactly.

SV: Source for renders in 1.1.3?
Posted by Morten Mortensen <MO...@tdc.dk>.
Hi
I believe, I have checked out most of the MyFaces tree... The current
tree. I am uncertain what I should look after. Under "shared" I see
"2_0_0", ... "2_0_2" unders "tags" and even up to "3_0_0" under
"branches".
How does this match the "tomahawk-1.1.3.jar", which I use? Should I look
after version-numbers within paths in the file-structure or real CVS
tags?
