[jira] Created: (MNG-3781) maven should not use beta plugins by default

maven should not use beta plugins by default
--------------------------------------------

                 Key: MNG-3781
                 URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-3781
             Project: Maven 2
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Plugins and Lifecycle
         Environment: n/a
            Reporter: Alvin Thompson

i just wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why i was getting duplicate files in my jar. since i originally thought it was a netbeans issue, i wasted a lot of their time as well. to make a long story short, it was a problem with the version of the maven assembly plugin that was being used to create the jar (2.2-beta-2).

the question is, why on earth does maven download and use beta plugins by default? most users simply want reliability, and don't want to be guinea pigs for the latest, greatest version.

    Resolution: Won't Fix

we are slowly weeding this out from the distributed super POM and won't adopt any beta plugins in the future.

As for Maven more generally, it will have to wait for a quality indicator to be able to distinguish which to grab or not.
