[jira] [Created] (HBASE-5756) we can change defalult File Appender to RFA instead of DRFA.

we can change defalult File Appender to RFA instead of DRFA.
------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: HBASE-5756
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-5756
             Project: HBase
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: rohithsharma
            Priority: Minor

This can be a point of concern when on a certain day the logging happens more because of more and more activity. In that case the log file for that day can grow huge. These logs can not be opened for analysis since size is more.

Anybody can still change the log4j.properties to get the desired behavior. I see no need to put into 0.94.

That said, the change in HBASE-5655 is simple, if you believe strongly I'll put it into 0.94.

I agree wih you.

In 90,92 and 94 branches doen't contains RFA properties.I suggest is we provide the RFA properties in log4j.properties.And let user configure his desired logging behavior accordingly.

@stack
Thank you stack:-) I will give patch that includes RFA properties for this for 90,92 and 94 branches. I will make an entry to reference guide too.

What about the default behavior,is RFA or DRFA.?

I would not hold up a release for this. Rohit, if you want to make a patch for the other branches, that would be welcome. Sounds like you might make an entry for the reference guide too.... A note on keeping a cap on growing logs?

You will have to convince Lars to apply hbase-5655 to trunk. Its too late to do it for 0.92 I'd say.

sorry if I am not clear.
   The problem I wanted to explain is same as HBASE-5655.

{quote}Does this recent commit to TRUNK give you what you want? HBASE-5655{quote}
yes, this commit gives exactly what I wanted. My opinion is to fix this in all the branches.
