Re: [DISCUSS] Missed starting voting thread in general@incubator.apache.org for XTable release

Thank you for leading our first release, Vinish!

For a WIP release, my understanding is that this is an optional step that
you can go through to gather feedback from other IPMC members.
However, note that going through an IPMC vote is a requirement for an
official release. With that in mind, I’d suggest that we try to do an
official ASF release as soon as possible. Is that the plan for 0.2.0?

Thanks,
Jesús

The invalid 0.1.0-incubating release was removed from Maven central. I
raised INFRA-26134 [1] to remove it from the Apache repos as well.

Note that the VOTE thread in general@incubator is still open and must
be closed. @Vinish can you please send a [CANCEL][VOTE] email with a
brief mention on why the vote is cancelled.

Best,
Stamatis

Re: [DISCUSS] Missed starting voting thread in general@incubator.apache.org for XTable release

Posted by Jesus Camacho Rodriguez <jc...@apache.org>.
Hi Vinish,

Regarding v0.1.0, it seems there is a consensus in the thread to start the
vote in general@incubator as soon as possible. If the vote doesn't pass, we
will need to delete the download artifacts and sources, though we might not
be able to do anything about the Maven central. I have checked the issues
raised by pjmanning and I hope that the vote can still pass given the WIP
disclaimer.

As for v0.2.0, once we have addressed those release blocker issues, we
should start a vote with the goal of making it the first non-WIP release.

Thanks,
Jesús

While the final discussion on general@incubator may take some time, should we start a new release 0.2.0 ? I have marked the GH issues created by IPMC member pjfanning with the label release-blocker 0.2.0
https://github.com/apache/incubator-xtable/issues/created_by/pjfanning

Thanks,

Thanks, Stamatis. You are right, after reading the thread again the main
question is whether we should have published the artifacts on ASF as part
of this WIP release without that IPMC vote, and perhaps we shouldn't have.
We should check with the general incubator mailing list, as you suggested.

Thanks,
Jesús

Re: [DISCUSS] Missed starting voting thread in general@incubator.apache.org for XTable release

Posted by Stamatis Zampetakis <za...@gmail.com>.
Hey everyone,

The release is staged and published [1] on ASF infrastructure so from
my perspective it is an official ASF release.
The fact that there is a WIP disclaimer doesn't make it unofficial and
there are many projects who have the WIP disclaimer and will pass by a
VOTE thread in general@incubator.

An additional problem is that the release received only 2 approval
(+1) votes from Incubator PMC members (Stamatis, Jesus) while the
minimum is 3.

I checked the archives of general@incubator but couldn't find a
similar situation in the past. I think we should reach out to
general@incubator ASAP and inform them about the current situation to
decide how to move forward.

Best,
Stamatis
