[jira] [Reopened] (AVRO-1812) IDL compiler doesn't support logical types

Doug Cutting reopened AVRO-1812:
--------------------------------

I'd like to re-open this. While logical types can be specified in IDL, it could be made easier. We might add direct support in IDL for standard logical types, like date, time & decimal, effectively making these first-class types in IDL.

> At least, as far as I can see it doesn't support it. We're looking at migrating to 1.8, and these additional types are a big motivator.
> I would advocate adding each one of the new logical types as supported primitive types in the IDL... if that sounds good to you, I can probably look into doing it tomorrow.
