web based email access for James
Hello,
I have succesfully setup James on my server configured for correct
incoming and outgoing messages. Our clients are able to access emails through
outlook and other such clients. But the proposal is being made for web based
email access. Anyone has tried any such software?
Do let me know.

Hemant,
Yahoo is apparently using an obsolete POP3 command. For a discussion of
the LAST command and why it was removed from the POP3 protocol, see this
link:

According to http://jeremy.zawodny.com/misc/yahoomail-and-wcnet.html,
"[Yahoo acknowledges] the problem but have no plans to fix it. The way they
see it, if you're going to use Yahoo Mail, they'd like you to use it
exclusively."
You can still access your mail using the approach recommended by Yahoo's
error message.

RE: web based email access for James
Posted by Hemant Joshi <hm...@yahoo.com>.
Hello,
To start with POP3 web based access to my James server, I added my
working James account to my yahoo email account for pop access. While trying to
fetch emails from my account, I get an error message by yahoo which says
POP server does not support LAST command. You may only retrieve POP mail from
this server using "get all messages".
My pop3server.log file has the following
1038087651484 [INFO ] (pop3server): POP3Server init...
1038087651484 [INFO ] (pop3server): POP3Listener using plain on port 110
1038087651484 [INFO ] (pop3server): POP3Server ...init end
1038088526625 [INFO ] (pop3server): Hello Name is: {my-server-name}
1038088526734 [INFO ] (pop3server): Connection from web13902.mail.yahoo.com
(216.136.175.28)
1038088526859 [INFO ] (pop3server): Command received: USER {my-user-name}
1038088526984 [INFO ] (pop3server): Command received: PASS {my-password}
1038088527187 [INFO ] (pop3server): Command received: STAT
1038088527250 [INFO ] (pop3server): Command received: LAST
1038088527343 [INFO ] (pop3server): Command received: QUIT
1038088527343 [INFO ] (pop3server): Connection closed
So I can see LAST command being issued and executed by James in the log file.
Any idea what is preventing me from accessing my James server through my yahoo
account.
thanks
-Hemant

a little pricy but rather good, offers a lot of features.

Hi Hemant,
I am using eMail2001 from http://www.esoft.com.au/ There is a free Lite
version which allows reading and deleting e-mails, but not sending. It
works for me.
I also found the following
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javaserverpages/emaila
pps/
which seems to be a sort of tutorial with code included for webmail.
You could also look through

I haven't used any of them, yet, but it doesn't have to be a Java web mail
client. :-) It just has to support the features you want, and use POP3.
Hopefully soon we'll be able to support IMAP web mail clients.

hi,
webmail with pop3 support? I had a look at jwma
[http://jwma.sourceforge.net] which does not support pop3[only IMAP
supported]
and jwebmail [http://jwebmail.sourceforge.net/] gets deployed on tomcat 4.1
but
the first access crashes tomcat without any further information.
Any other options I can try?
