Uninitiateds basic question

Dear Open Office

Sorry to be contacting you on this, but I seem to be making little headway with what appears to be just what I need but is way above my head.

I imported a .wdb file which was put into Calc in cell “A” on 92 rows. I needed to Edit 4 records which I discovered how to do but it left the boxes highlighted in red. I do not know what this means and have been unable to remove it.

I want to sort the complete file but found that the “Sort” selection was greyed out. To me this indicated that some thing else needed to be done first. I tried “Select All” and many other functions but have yet no luck.

I have consulted the “Tutorials” but there I cannot find any reference to my problems, in desperation I hope you could point me in right direction.

If it is possible that you could assist I would be most grateful.

Regards

David Bath

When you say "highlighted", you mean that the border of the cells has
turned red - with a small red square in the top left corner - right?

This will be because you have the recording of changes turned on. If
you hover your mouse over the cells, you will see a note indicating
who made what change when.

If you wish to maintain the recording of changes, you can accept the
changes made so far using Edit | Changes > | Accept or Reject...
. If (as is likely) you didn't want this in the first place, you can
more easily just turn it off by removing the tick from Edit |
Changes > | Record.

You need to accept your changes, making them permanent and no longer
marked (using either technique above), before you can do this. Once
you have done so, you will be able to select and sort the changed values.

I trust this helps.

As you are not subscribed to the mailing list you have missed the
answer from Andrew Pitonyak.

His suggestion was that it could be that you Record Changes.
You could switch it of under Edit --> Changes ... Record.
See this article
<https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11351> in the
forum.

To make sure you see all answers you should subscribe to this mailing list.

Someone here will hopefully know the answers :-)

Did not know we could read wdb files...

So the background of the cell is red, just the outline is red?

I expect that "change tracking" is turned on, but I am only guessing:

What if you select only the cells that you want to sort? Is the sort
method still greyed out?
