Forwarding to a portlet in another pane

Hello everyone,

I was going through the mailing list archives but I couldnt find an answer to this one. For starters, the terminology is confusing me. It seems interchangeable. 

Currently, I have two panes (or are they called tabs?) called Home and Allocation Module. I have a portler called viewer in the home pane. Viewer is a database browser, and it's rows are linked to a portlet (called details) in the Allocation Module tab.

I cant figure out how to forward/link/tranfer from my viewer portlet in the Home pane to the Details portlet under Allocation Module.

I tried the things suggested in earlier posts and so far I've managed to transfer the panes but thats about it.
