[I] Apply path ignores to implicitly classified source archives (tooling-trusted-releases)
sbp opened a new issue, #630:
URL: https://github.com/apache/tooling-trusted-releases/issues/630
There is currently a bug where if an archive is not explicitly classified it is counted as a source archive but lightweight and RAT path ignores do not get applied. We need to first decide how to classify when there is no explicit classification (part of #629) and then, if the present issue is still relevant, resolve it.

In https://github.com/apache/tooling-trusted-releases/issues/647#issuecomment-3899313623 we resolved to improve classification in general. We'll keep binary as the default for now, but hope to render it moot. Therefore this issue does remain open and does still need to be fixed.

In #647 I suggest that we reconsider, and use source as the default. The rationale is that source is currently the only thing that PMCs vote on, and that even if we extend it to binaries, source will still be always required whereas binaries will be optional. Therefore every project will include source, but not all will include binaries. I noticed this in my test releases which are mostly just source artifacts, and which were all being misclassified by default as binaries.

As recorded in https://github.com/apache/tooling-trusted-releases/issues/629#issuecomment-3862324988 we decided to classify non-metadata files as binary artifacts by default.
