In order to reveal the problem...

Instead of calling the load method, the first time, with a file containing 
invalid XML (because I've already found one instance of invalid XML not being 
identified (see Bug #9611)), call it with a non-existent file, just to be safe.

Then, of course, proceed as was indicated...
