file locking and events (Newby)

Hi all,

Maybe this is more like a WebDAV newby question, but I couldn’t find anything related on webdav.org.

I am planning to code a document manager. It should be possible, to edit documents directly on the server. So for example, someone connects via a ms web folder, opens a word doc, saves it, and finally closes it. Now how does the locking work? Is the slide WebDav server realizing, when somebody accesses a file? Or is the client responsible for file locking?

And another question: Is there a way to be notified, when a file is changed or created? For example, let’s say I want to send an email, when somebody adds new contents. Are there any events triggered?

Thanks!
Christian

Hi all,

Maybe this is more like a WebDAV newby question, but I couldn't find
anything related on webdav.org.

I am planning to code a document manager. It should be possible, to edit
documents directly on the server. So for example, someone connects via a ms
web folder, opens a word doc, saves it, and finally closes it. Now how does
the locking work? Is the slide WebDav server realizing, when somebody
accesses a file? Or is the client responsible for file locking?
- This is client responsibility. MS office does lock files before enditing -
so there is no problem here. This is standard WebDAV.

And another question: Is there a way to be notified, when a file is changed
or created? For example, let's say I want to send an email, when somebody
adds new contents. Are there any events triggered?
- Yes. The slide server has triggers/events.

Thanks!
Christian
