Starting an LDAP studio project at Directory

Hi all,

Recently I had asked Alex for space @safehaus to work on an Eclipse
plugin for working with LDAP directories, namely ApacheDS.

He setup some space for me but recommended that I start using the
sandbox since I now have karma.

Is this ok with everyone? If this experimental plugin works out
perhaps we can make it a real project at Directory.

Thoughts?

As you know I'm definitely a +1 on this.

yep

What happens if ADS were to use GPL java?

No way it can happen soon :)

There is a so-called a Gnu ClassPath exception :
http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/license.html, so it's suppose to
protect us from being GPLized ...

Wowaooo!!

Check out the LDAP Studio Logo.

Smoooookkkkkinnnnn.

Sure - I'll be glad to lend a hand.

Pierre just ping me.

I'm actually generating a plugin (Model and Editor)
for the
JPackage RPM configuration file using EMF right now.

The baseline editor generated is somewhat crude, but
can be easily customized and EMF JMerge can be used to
merge the customized code with the Generated code, so
there's a lot of benefit to it.

Cheers,
- Ole

P.S. An OT question in case one of us knows

You've heard Java is going GPL right?

What happens if ADS were to use GPL java?

My understanding is that libraries that reference GPL
code become GPL...even documents that have GPL font in
them become GPL...

Anyone know how this works?

I have finished importing the project in SVN
(/sandbox/pamarcelot/ldapstudio) and the documentation on CWiki.

The build system is still Ant+Ivy, but I'm working on Maven...

You'll find useful information (what it is about and how to build it) about
LDAP Studio on Confluence :

Ole, Pam is having problem understanding how to make Maven happy (trying to
generate eclipse plugins).

Could you give him a hand if needed ?

It would be very kind of you !

Emmanuel who is a maven hater ...

Thanks all,

I have started a migration of my build system from Ant+Ivy to Maven, to
match with ADS' one.

As soon as the project builds again, I'll import it into sandbox.

Thanks again for welcoming this project.

The sandbox seems the best place to work for a starting project.

Create one, and have fun !

This is great! LDAP Studio is already a promising application and it
will evolve here as the best LDAP management platform.
